Welcome to Whovian Wednesday

As I was idly browsing for some TV viewing that wouldn’t require my full attention, I found myself landing on the classic episodes of Doctor Who. As a fan of Nu-Who ever since it was rebooted in 2005 (although my interest dropped precipitously after the Ponds left the scene), I’d once before tried to go through the entirety of Classic Who (or, at least, what I could get my hands on at the time — this was before streaming was a predominant as it is now).

I’d only made it halfway through the Third Doctor (who I actually really enjoyed).

“Hmm,” I thought, skipping over the tempting episodes of Poirot, which had enticed me into purchasing Amazon’s “Britbox” channel in the first place, “perhaps I’ll give the Classic era a go again, since it’s convenient and easy-to-stream and will justify that extra $6.99 a month.”

And so I did, and remembered how much fun it is to wholly throw yourself into a nerdy obsession. After spending the past *mumblemumble* years being focused on work and other equally less-fun distractions, I’d missed the joy of letting my inner geek out as I thrilled to the familiar whrrrrrvooorrrrrp! whrrrrrvooorrrrrp! whrrrrrvooorrrrrp! of the TARDIS.

However, I know me, and despite my best efforts to watch ALL THE DOCTOR WHO, I will probably peter out somewhere by the Third, or maybe the Second. My attention span just isn’t what it used to be.

“Aha! But what if I hold myself accountable to some arbitrary schedule!”

So thus, a blog was born.

This is not a site of reviews or recaps — there are wiser and more erudite who have tread those blogging boards many-a-time before. But this will just be a space for my thoughts and opinions and rants and raves. A little space carved out in the massive niche that is the online geekdom.

My goal is to watch a little Who every week and post about it on Wednesdays (hence “Whovian Wednesdays,” which makes for some nice alliteration, and I can pretend that I totally meant to start today instead of it just being coincidence). There will probably be other bits’n’bobs that might fill in the spaces between. For example, I’ve recently been on a graphic novel kick, thanks to having access to a massive pile of them, even though the only comics I ever read growing up were Archie comics.

Honestly, it’ll be nice to stretch out my geeky limbs again.

I’m not actually going to be talking about the episodes I just watched, though. Not today. I mean, let’s face it, the cave men episodes aren’t exactly the greatest. Better to save more words and thoughts for the introduction of the Daleks — next week!
